Job Description
We are actively seeking a dedicated and reliable Kitchen Steward to join our night shift team, focusing on the critical task of restaurant cleaning. This vital role ensures that our culinary spaces and dining areas consistently meet the highest standards of hygiene and pristine cleanliness, ready for the next day’s operations. As a Night Shift Kitchen Steward, you will play an indispensable part in upholding our unwavering commitment to food safety and guest satisfaction through meticulous cleaning and sanitization of all kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces after our evening service concludes. Your diligence directly contributes to the seamless functioning of our renowned restaurants and reinforces the esteemed reputation of Southern Sun Ikoyi. This is a hands-on, essential position requiring a strong work ethic, physical stamina, and a keen eye for detail, operating during the quiet hours of the hotel to prepare for the bustling day ahead.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute comprehensive cleaning and sanitization of all kitchen areas, including floors, walls, cooking stations, and food preparation surfaces, strictly adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Operate industrial dishwashing machines efficiently for crockery, cutlery, and glassware, and perform manual washing of pots, pans, and large kitchen equipment.
- Ensure all cleaned items are properly dried, polished, and meticulously stored in their designated places for immediate future use.
- Manage and maintain an accurate inventory of cleaning supplies and chemicals, promptly reporting needs for replenishment to ensure continuous operational efficiency.
- Handle and dispose of kitchen waste and refuse in accordance with established environmental procedures, maintaining a clean and odour-free environment.
- Adhere rigorously to all company policies, local health codes, and food safety standards to prevent contamination and maintain a safe working environment.
- Provide essential support to the culinary team during night shift operations, assisting with basic tasks as required to ensure seamless service flow.
- Promptly identify and report any faulty equipment, plumbing issues, or potential safety hazards to the supervisor for swift resolution.
- Actively contribute to a positive and collaborative team atmosphere, demonstrating initiative and teamwork in completing all assigned tasks.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to consistently work night shifts (typically 10 PM – 6 AM).
- Physical stamina and strength to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects (up to 25 kg), and perform repetitive tasks.
- Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene, sanitation protocols, and cleaning procedures.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, demanding kitchen environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring thoroughness in all cleaning tasks.
- High degree of reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience (minimum 6 months) as a Kitchen Steward or in a similar cleaning role within a hospitality setting (hotel or restaurant).
- Familiarity with the safe handling and storage of various cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team.
