Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Farm Supervisor with a strong background in plantation management and crop rotation to join our growing team in Rebisi, Port Harcourt. The successful candidate will be instrumental in overseeing the daily operations of our agricultural sites, ensuring the optimal health and productivity of our crops and plantations. This hands-on role requires a proactive leader who can manage a team of farmhands, implement best practices in cultivation, and contribute significantly to our sustainable farming goals. You will be responsible for meticulously planning and executing crop rotation schedules, ensuring soil health and nutrient management, and deploying effective pest and disease control strategies. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage daily farm operations, including planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and harvesting activities.
- Develop, implement, and monitor effective crop rotation schedules to maintain soil fertility and minimize pest and disease pressure.
- Supervise and lead a team of farm workers, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback.
- Ensure the proper use and maintenance of farm machinery and equipment, conducting regular checks and arranging for repairs as needed.
- Monitor plantation health, identifying and addressing issues related to pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of crop yields, input usage (fertilizers, pesticides), labor hours, and other relevant farm data.
- Implement and enforce health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures on the farm.
- Prepare regular reports on farm performance, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and achieve production targets and budget goals.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards for all harvested produce.
- Manage inventory of farm supplies and procure necessary materials efficiently.
Required Skills
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Horticulture, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of progressive experience in farm management, with specific focus on plantation management and crop rotation.
- Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide farm personnel.
- In-depth knowledge of various crop cultivation techniques, soil science, pest and disease management.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining farm machinery and equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a demanding, outdoor environment and adapt to changing conditions.
- Proficient in basic computer applications for record-keeping and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant agricultural discipline.
- Certifications in sustainable agriculture practices or specific crop management.
- Experience with precision agriculture technologies.
- Knowledge of local agricultural regulations and market trends in Rivers State.
