Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Finance Officer with a specific focus on Budgeting and Accounts Reconciliation to join our dedicated finance team. This is a critical role within our institution, ensuring the accurate management of our financial resources and supporting robust financial planning. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the preparation, monitoring, and analysis of departmental budgets, working closely with various college departments to ensure financial discipline and alignment with strategic objectives. You will be responsible for performing meticulous accounts reconciliations, including bank, control, and general ledger accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the College's annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Conduct regular budget variance analysis, providing insightful explanations and recommendations to budget holders.
  • Perform comprehensive accounts reconciliations for bank statements, control accounts, and general ledger balances on a timely basis.
  • Investigate and resolve all reconciliation discrepancies efficiently, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Support the month-end and year-end close procedures, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure all financial data is processed in accordance with College policies and financial regulations.
  • Assist with the preparation of management accounts and financial reports as required.
  • Provide financial advice and support to various departments across the College.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes and systems.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial legislation, standards, and internal controls.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in a finance role with significant exposure to budgeting and accounts reconciliation.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for liaising with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English at grade C/4 or above.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AAT Level 4 qualification or part-qualified ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA.
  • Experience working within the education sector or a similar public sector environment.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations relevant to Further Education colleges.
  • Experience with integrated financial management systems (e.g., Agresso, SAP, Oracle).
