Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Generator Mechanic specializing in diesel engine repair and standby plant maintenance to join our growing team in Port Harcourt. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various makes and models of diesel generators, ensuring their optimal performance and reliability. This role requires a deep understanding of diesel engine mechanics, electrical systems, control panels, and safety protocols associated with power generation equipment. You will be instrumental in diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical faults, performing intricate repairs, and conducting routine servicing to extend the lifespan of our clients’ generator sets. Your expertise will directly contribute to minimizing downtime and ensuring our customers have uninterrupted power supply. This is a critical hands-on role that demands precision, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service in a fast-paced environment. You will work independently and as part of a team, interacting directly with clients to understand their needs and provide expert technical advice. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on diesel generators, including oil changes, filter replacements, and system inspections.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues on diesel engines and generator sets.
- Conduct comprehensive overhauls and rebuilds of diesel engines, alternators, and associated components.
- Install, test, and commission new generator sets at client sites, ensuring proper functionality and safety compliance.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and software to identify faults and analyze engine performance data.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repair, and service activities.
- Provide technical support and guidance to clients on generator operation and basic maintenance.
- Adhere strictly to safety standards and procedures during all work operations.
- Respond to emergency call-outs and resolve critical generator malfunctions efficiently.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless service delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Order and manage spare parts inventory for repairs and maintenance tasks.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in diesel engine diagnostics and repair.
- Strong understanding of generator electrical systems, control panels, and automatic transfer switches (ATS).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical certification or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
