Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and submit accurate customs declarations and other required documentation for import and export shipments.
  • Classify goods according to harmonized tariff schedules and apply correct duty and tax rates.
  • Ensure full compliance with all local and international customs laws, regulations, and trade agreements.
  • Liaise effectively with customs authorities, clients, shipping lines, and other stakeholders to resolve queries and facilitate timely clearances.
  • Advise clients on customs procedures, import/export requirements, duty minimization strategies, and trade compliance.
  • Monitor the status of shipments, track clearances, and proactively communicate updates to clients.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all transactions, declarations, and communications.
  • Identify and report any discrepancies, compliance risks, or operational challenges.
  • Stay updated on changes in customs legislation, tariffs, and trade policies affecting DRC and the region.
  • Participate in audits and provide necessary documentation and explanations to customs officials.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience as a Customs Broker or in a similar customs clearance role.
  • In-depth knowledge of DRC customs laws, regulations, and import/export procedures.
  • Proficiency in customs classification (Harmonized System – HS Codes) and valuation methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of international trade terms (Incoterms).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fluent in English and French (both written and spoken).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in customs brokerage or freight forwarding.
  • Experience with customs software or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Knowledge of other regional African customs regulations.
