Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on all refrigeration equipment, including cold rooms, chillers, evaporators, condensers, compressors, and associated controls, ensuring maximum uptime.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical faults in industrial refrigeration systems, identifying root causes and implementing effective, long-lasting repair solutions.
- Conduct emergency repairs promptly and efficiently to minimize downtime, prevent product spoilage, and avoid production disruptions.
- Install, commission, and decommission various types of refrigeration equipment in strict accordance with manufacturer specifications, industry best practices, and all safety standards.
- Monitor and optimize refrigeration system performance to ensure maximum energy efficiency and strict adherence to environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs performed, and inventory of spare parts utilized.
- Collaborate effectively with other engineering, production, and facilities teams to coordinate maintenance schedules and project timelines.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and industrial best practices to ensure a safe working environment.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and practical training to junior technicians or support staff when required.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for urgent technical support outside regular working hours, as needed, to address critical issues.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise (minimum 3 years) in the maintenance, repair, and installation of industrial refrigeration systems and cold rooms.
- Strong understanding of refrigeration principles, thermodynamics, and comprehensive HVAC systems.
- Proficient in diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical control systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) related to refrigeration equipment.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret complex technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- In-depth knowledge of refrigerants (e.g., ammonia, freon) handling procedures, recovery, and disposal in compliance with all environmental regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities to resolve complex technical issues.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures, with a proactive approach to hazard identification.
- Good communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
- Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work comfortably in varied environmental conditions (e.g., cold temperatures, confined spaces).
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Technology, or a closely related technical field.
- Professional certification in refrigeration (e.g., F-Gas, EPA Section 608 equivalent, or recognized local certifications).
- Specific experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems in a large-scale industrial setting.
- Familiarity with food and beverage manufacturing environments and their unique refrigeration requirements.
- Prior experience utilizing a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software for work order management and record keeping.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
