Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated HVAC Technician to join our facilities management team in Elekahia, Port Harcourt. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of various heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems across our operational sites and offices. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of HVAC principles, electrical systems, and safety protocols, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency of all cooling and climate control equipment. This position requires a proactive individual who can work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating excellent diagnostic capabilities and a commitment to maintaining a comfortable and safe working environment for all personnel. You will be instrumental in preventing downtime, extending equipment life, and ensuring energy efficiency for our essential infrastructure. Your expertise will directly contribute to the operational continuity and comfort across our facilities, playing a vital role in our commitment to excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on all HVAC/R systems, including chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, split units, and refrigeration equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and control system issues in HVAC/R equipment.
- Execute timely and effective repairs, including replacing defective components, compressors, motors, and electrical parts.
- Install new HVAC/R systems and components according to blueprints, manufacturer specifications, and safety standards.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify potential issues and recommend proactive solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repair, and installation activities, including parts used and hours worked.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians or facility staff as required.
- Manage refrigerant handling, recovery, and disposal in compliance with environmental regulations.
- Ensure all work areas are kept clean, organized, and safe before, during, and after work completion.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an HVAC Technician with a strong focus on air conditioning and cooling systems.
- Thorough knowledge of HVAC/R systems, components, and their operational principles.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including knowledge of control circuits and motor controls.
- Competency in using a variety of hand and power tools common to the trade.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical certification or diploma in HVAC/R technology from a recognized institution.
- Experience with large-scale industrial HVAC systems and complex refrigeration units.
- Familiarity with building management systems (BMS) and automated controls.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
