Job Description

As a Water Treatment Operator at Notore Chemical Industries Plc, you will be an essential part of our operations team, ensuring the efficient and safe functioning of our sophisticated water purification plant. This critical role involves monitoring, operating, and maintaining complex water treatment systems that supply high-quality process water, cooling water, and potable water essential for our large-scale chemical manufacturing facility. You will work on a rotating shift schedule, requiring vigilance and precision to manage water intake, chemical dosing, filtration, clarification, and disinfection processes. Your daily tasks will include conducting routine laboratory tests, interpreting results, accurately recording operational data, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and performing minor repairs. Strict adherence to environmental regulations, company safety protocols, and quality standards is paramount. This position demands a proactive individual with a strong understanding of water chemistry, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to maintaining operational integrity around the clock. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor all water treatment plant equipment, including pumps, filters, chemical feed systems, and control panels, on a rotating shift basis.
  • Conduct routine laboratory tests (e.g., pH, turbidity, chlorine residual, alkalinity) to ensure water quality meets established standards.
  • Perform chemical dosing adjustments as required to maintain optimal treatment parameters.
  • Record operational data, meter readings, chemical usages, and test results accurately in logs and digital systems.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and identify malfunctions in water treatment equipment and initiate corrective actions or maintenance requests.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks, including cleaning filters, calibrating instruments, and lubricating machinery.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Manage chemical inventories and ensure safe handling and storage of all treatment chemicals.
  • Respond promptly to alarms and emergencies, implementing established protocols.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and other operational teams to ensure seamless plant operations.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience operating water treatment equipment and systems, particularly in an industrial setting.
  • Strong understanding of water treatment processes (coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection).
  • Basic knowledge of water chemistry and laboratory testing procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and operational diagrams.
  • Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and performing minor equipment maintenance.
  • Proficiency in data recording and reporting.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OND/HND/B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Relevant certification in Water Treatment Plant Operations.
  • Experience with SCADA systems or other process control software.
  • Knowledge of Nigerian environmental regulations pertaining to water quality and discharge.
  • Previous experience working in a chemical manufacturing or oil and gas industry environment.
