Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently using Point of Sale (POS) systems.
  • Handle cash, debit/credit card, and other payment methods responsibly, ensuring correct change.
  • Greet customers warmly, provide excellent service, and assist with product location and general enquiries.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe checkout area, adhering to all hygiene standards.
  • Accurately scan products and ensure correct pricing, resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Promote store loyalty programs (e.g., Nectar) and inform customers about special offers.
  • Assist with other store duties as required, including merchandising, stock rotation, or bagging items.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including age verification for restricted sales.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth store operations and a positive team atmosphere.

Required Skills

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in cash handling.
  • Ability to work effectively and remain calm in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong, proactive work ethic.
  • Basic numeracy skills for handling transactions and calculating change.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights (up to 10-15 kg) when required.
  • A positive and friendly attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (e.g., 6 months) in a retail, hospitality, or customer service role.
  • Familiarity with Point of Sale (POS) systems and electronic payment processing.
  • An understanding of food hygiene and safety standards, particularly for supermarket operations.
