Job Description

As a Logistics Coordinator at Lafarge Africa, you will be a pivotal part of our supply chain team, ensuring the efficient and timely movement of our essential building materials from production sites to distribution points and directly to customers across the region. This full-time, on-site role in Mile 1, Port Harcourt, requires a highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of logistics operations in the manufacturing sector, particularly within the cement and construction materials industry. You will be instrumental in coordinating transportation, managing inventory flows, optimizing delivery routes, and ensuring strict compliance with all local and international regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily transportation activities, including scheduling, routing, and tracking of cement, aggregates, and other building material deliveries.
  • Manage relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers and transport contractors, ensuring strict adherence to service level agreements, safety standards, and performance metrics.
  • Monitor inventory levels at various depots and warehouses, ensuring optimal stock rotation, preventing stockouts, and avoiding overstock situations to maximize efficiency.
  • Process and manage all dispatch documentation, including waybills, invoices, and delivery notes, ensuring absolute accuracy and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively identify and resolve logistical issues, such as delivery delays, damages, discrepancies, or rerouting needs, in a timely and effective manner to minimize disruption.
  • Implement and enforce rigorous health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures within all logistics operations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Analyze logistics data, including transportation costs and delivery times, to identify areas for cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and propose and implement data-driven solutions.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with sales, production, and customer service teams to align logistics operations with fluctuating business needs and evolving customer expectations.
  • Prepare regular, comprehensive logistics reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) for management review, highlighting trends, challenges, and successes.
  • Ensure complete compliance with all relevant national and international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and company policies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (3+ years) in logistics coordination, preferably within the manufacturing or heavy industry sector (cement/building materials is a significant advantage).
  • Strong understanding of supply chain management principles, transportation regulations, and logistics best practices.
  • Proficiency in logistics software and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar).
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of making data-driven decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and manage challenging situations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data analysis and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Professional certification in Logistics or Supply Chain Management (e.g., CILT – Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport).
  • Familiarity with the geographical routes, road networks, and transportation infrastructure specifically within Rivers State and neighboring regions.
  • Experience with lean logistics methodologies or continuous improvement initiatives in a supply chain context.
