Job Description
Bredel Services Limited is actively seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Civil Technician to bolster our robust construction team in Mile 3, Port Harcourt. This crucial full-time position requires providing essential construction assistance and comprehensive site support across various ongoing civil engineering and infrastructure projects. As a Civil Technician, you will play a key role in the smooth execution of site operations, diligently maintaining quality standards, and offering critical data and technical input to our project engineers. Key Responsibilities
- Assist Project Engineers and Site Supervisors in the daily supervision and coordination of civil construction activities.
- Conduct routine site inspections to ensure strict adherence to project specifications, engineering drawings, and safety regulations.
- Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports, including comprehensive photographic documentation of site activities.
- Perform accurate quantity take-offs and material reconciliation to support efficient procurement and inventory management processes.
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to accurately guide construction teams on site.
- Operate and maintain precision survey equipment (e.g., total station, auto level) for setting out, leveling tasks, and data collection.
- Monitor and implement rigorous quality control procedures for construction materials and workmanship across all site operations.
- Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings and comprehensive project documentation for record-keeping and client handover.
- Ensure all site activities strictly comply with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) standards and company policies.
- Collaborate effectively with various trade teams and subcontractors to proactively identify and resolve site-specific issues.
- Provide technical support and practical troubleshooting for site-related challenges as they arise, ensuring minimal disruption.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in interpreting civil engineering drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.
- Strong understanding of construction materials, methodologies, and quality control procedures.
- Competent in using surveying equipment, including Total Station and Auto Level.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for reporting and documentation.
- Ability to work effectively and proactively in a fast-paced, team-oriented construction environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Unwavering commitment to safety protocols and maintaining strict site discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Civil Engineering, Building Technology, or a closely related field.
- Previous experience working with a reputable construction or engineering firm in Nigeria.
- Basic knowledge and proficiency in AutoCAD or similar computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards in Nigeria.
- Membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., NSE, COREN in view) is an advantage.
