Job Description
Are you a highly skilled and experienced Electrician looking for a challenging role on a dynamic construction site? This pivotal full-time, on-site role is critical to ensuring the seamless operation of our construction projects, encompassing everything from initial electrical installations to routine maintenance and urgent repairs. You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, ensuring all work complies with national electrical codes and safety regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, wiring, and equipment on construction sites in accordance with blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on all electrical infrastructure, including generators, control panels, lighting, and power distribution systems, to prevent breakdowns.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical malfunctions, power outages, and system failures using appropriate testing devices, and implement effective repair solutions promptly.
- Ensure strict adherence to all relevant electrical codes, safety standards (e.g., Nigerian Electrical Safety Code), and company safety policies at all times, including proper lockout/tagout procedures.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams to execute installation and repair tasks accurately.
- Collaborate effectively with other tradespersons, project managers, and site supervisors to coordinate electrical work with overall project timelines and requirements.
- Maintain detailed records of all electrical work performed, including installations, repairs, and maintenance activities, and manage inventory of electrical parts and supplies.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior electricians or apprentices as needed, fostering a culture of continuous learning and skill development.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an Electrician in a construction or industrial setting
- Thorough knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and components
- Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities for electrical faults
- Excellent understanding of safety procedures and regulatory requirements (e.g., NFPA 70, local electrical codes)
- Ability to use various electrical and hand tools safely and effectively
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform duties in diverse weather conditions and confined spaces
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade Test Certificate I, II, or III in Electrical Installation or equivalent vocational qualification
- Certification in safety practices (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH) or relevant local safety certifications
- Experience with industrial control systems (PLCs, VFDs) or heavy machinery electrical systems
- Previous experience working on large-scale infrastructure or civil engineering projects
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of work
