Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Plant Operator to join our vibrant team at our Ozuoba facility in Port Harcourt. This pivotal role involves the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of various plant machinery and equipment critical to our manufacturing processes. As a Plant Operator, you will be on the front lines, ensuring that our production processes adhere to the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and environmental compliance. Your responsibilities will include the meticulous monitoring of equipment performance, identification and resolution of operational issues, and execution of routine maintenance tasks to uphold optimal plant functionality. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor a range of heavy industrial plant machinery and control systems, including crushers, conveyors, kilns, mills, and packaging equipment, to ensure optimal production output and efficiency.
- Conduct thorough routine inspections of all assigned equipment, machinery, and production areas, promptly identifying, troubleshooting, and reporting any anomalies, malfunctions, or safety hazards.
- Adjust and fine-tune process parameters and control settings (e.g., temperature, pressure, flow rates) to maintain desired operating conditions and ensure product quality aligns with specified standards.
- Perform minor preventative maintenance, cleaning, and basic repairs on equipment to minimize downtime and support continuous operational flow.
- Strictly adhere to all Lafarge Africa Plc's safety, health, environmental (SHE) policies, procedures, and regulations, actively promoting a robust safety culture within the team.
- Accurately record and document operational data, production metrics, equipment performance, and maintenance activities, ensuring data integrity for reporting and analysis.
- Collaborate effectively with maintenance, quality control, logistics, and supervisory teams to achieve production targets, resolve operational challenges, and improve overall plant performance.
- Actively participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance operational skills, technical knowledge, and adapt to new technologies and processes.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization within the plant and designated work areas to ensure a safe and productive environment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Plant Operator or in a similar heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with a comprehensive understanding of industrial machinery, hydraulics, pneumatics, and processes.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, blueprints, P&ID diagrams, and operational procedures accurately.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a capacity to troubleshoot complex operational issues quickly and effectively under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting and team collaboration.
- Demonstrated unwavering commitment to safety procedures, risk assessment, and best practices.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a diverse team in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting, standing for extended periods, climbing, and working in varying environmental conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Proficiency in operating SCADA systems, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), or other process control software.
- Relevant certifications in industrial safety (e.g., HSE certification) or specialized machinery operation.
- In-depth knowledge of cement manufacturing processes, raw materials, and finished product quality parameters.
- Previous experience working within a Lafarge, Holcim, or similar global building materials facility.
