While our administrative and logistical hub is based in Fullerton, the hands-on farm work will take place at our partner farms located in fertile agricultural regions within California, easily accessible from various Southern California communities. As a Farm Worker, you will play a crucial role in the cultivation, harvesting, and care of a diverse range of specialty fruits and vegetables that Melissa’s Produce is renowned for. Key Responsibilities
- Perform various manual tasks related to crop cultivation, including planting, weeding, pruning, and thinning.
- Participate in the harvesting of a wide array of specialty fruits and vegetables according to quality standards and timelines.
- Operate and maintain basic farm machinery and hand tools safely and efficiently.
- Assist with irrigation systems, including setting up, monitoring, and moving pipes.
- Monitor crops for pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies, reporting findings to farm supervisors.
- Prepare fields for planting, including soil preparation and bed formation.
- Package and prepare harvested produce for transport, ensuring proper handling and sorting.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of farm areas, tools, and equipment.
- Adhere strictly to all farm safety regulations and food safety protocols.
- Work collaboratively with farm teams to achieve production goals and maintain high quality standards.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in agricultural or farm work.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of agricultural practices and plant care.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. or eligibility for visa sponsorship.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new farming techniques and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific specialty crops (e.g., exotic fruits, organic vegetables).
