The Transport Officer will be responsible for the end-to-end management of our fleet, including meticulous logistics planning, route optimization, driver supervision, and ensuring all vehicles are in peak operational condition. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor efficient transport schedules and routes to optimize delivery times and reduce operational costs.
- Oversee the daily management of the motor pool, including vehicle allocation, dispatching, and tracking to ensure timely departures and arrivals.
- Supervise and train drivers, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and adherence to company policies and traffic regulations.
- Coordinate with the maintenance department to ensure regular servicing, repairs, and inspections of all fleet vehicles, minimizing downtime.
- Monitor fuel consumption, vehicle performance, and maintenance records to identify areas for improvement and cost savings.
- Ensure strict compliance with all local and national transportation laws, safety standards, and company specific operational procedures.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on fleet performance, fuel efficiency, maintenance costs, and incident management for management review.
- Implement and manage contingency plans for unexpected delays, vehicle breakdowns, or route disruptions.
- Utilize transport management systems (TMS) and GPS tracking software to enhance operational visibility and control.
- Collaborate with warehouse and client service teams to ensure seamless coordination between transport and other logistical functions.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in logistics and transport management, specifically motor pool operations.
- Strong understanding of transportation regulations and safety standards in Nigeria.
- Proficiency in logistics software, GPS tracking systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective team leadership and stakeholder engagement.
