Job Description
Join the Sweetwater Union High School District as a Food Service Worker and become an essential part of our mission to nourish and support the academic success of our students in Otay Ranch, Chula Vista. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a variety of healthy and appealing meals and snacks in accordance with established menus, recipes, and portion controls.
- Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, warmers, dishwashers, and food choppers safely and efficiently.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in all food service areas, including kitchen, serving lines, and dining halls.
- Assist with inventory management, including receiving, storing, and organizing food supplies.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal food safety and sanitation regulations (e.g., HACCP).
- Provide friendly and efficient customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
- Assist in counting and reconciling cash/sales transactions as required.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure smooth and timely meal service operations.
- Adhere to all district policies and procedures, especially those related to safety and student interaction.
Required Skills
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation, serving techniques, and kitchen equipment.
- Understanding and adherence to food safety and sanitation procedures.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull food items and equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliability and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience in a food service setting, preferably in a school or institutional environment.
- Possession of a valid Food Handler's Card or ability to obtain one upon hire.
- Knowledge of basic nutritional guidelines and dietary restrictions.
