Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct client outreach and mobilization within target communities to identify potential loan applicants.
  • Perform thorough credit assessments, including business viability analysis, cash flow projections, and collateral evaluation for micro-loan applications.
  • Prepare and present loan proposals to the credit committee for approval, ensuring compliance with COOPEC-UVIRO's lending policies and procedures.
  • Disburse approved loans in a timely and efficient manner, explaining terms and conditions clearly to clients.
  • Monitor and manage a portfolio of micro-loans, ensuring timely repayments and proactively addressing potential defaults through client engagement.
  • Provide financial literacy training and basic business advisory services to clients to enhance their capacity for successful loan utilization and repayment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and loan documentation in accordance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with clients, community leaders, and local stakeholders.
  • Achieve monthly and quarterly loan portfolio growth and quality targets.
  • Identify and report any instances of fraud or non-compliance to management.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of lending processes.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in microfinance, credit, or a related financial services role, preferably in a field setting.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills for financial assessment, portfolio management, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse clients from varying backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) for data entry and report generation.
  • Ability to work independently in the field, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
  • Fluency in Swahili and French (verbal and written) is mandatory for effective client interaction.
  • A valid motorcycle driving license (or willingness to obtain one) is essential for efficient field visits and outreach activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Rural Development, or a related field.
  • Prior experience working with rural or marginalized communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • Knowledge of local dialects spoken in Uvira and South Kivu Province (e.g., Lingala, Mashi).
  • Experience with a core banking system or microfinance management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed targets in a sales or client-facing role.
