Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and store meat products in accordance with food safety standards.
- Expertly cut, trim, bone, grind, and prepare various types of meat (beef, pork, poultry, fish) to meet quality standards and customer specifications.
- Operate and maintain meat cutting equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain attractive and fully stocked meat display cases, ensuring proper rotation and presentation.
- Provide exceptional customer service, assisting customers with selections, offering cooking advice, and responding to inquiries.
- Monitor and manage inventory, ensuring freshness and minimizing waste.
- Adhere strictly to all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene regulations.
- Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and display cases regularly.
- Assist with other duties in the department as required to maintain smooth operations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Butcher or Meat Cutter.
- Excellent knife handling skills and knowledge of various meat cuts.
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene protocols (HACCP knowledge preferred).
- Ability to operate meat cutting equipment safely and effectively.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift heavy items, and work in a cold environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Butchery or a related culinary field.
- Experience working in a supermarket or high-volume retail meat department.
- Knowledge of local and international meat preparation techniques.
- Ability to speak Patois is an asset for customer interaction.
