Job Description

We are urgently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safety Officer to join our team in Abuja, specifically to oversee operations and ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental protocols in and around our facilities, including areas relevant to the National Stadium operations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in fostering a strong safety culture, implementing robust HSE policies, and ensuring compliance with all national and international safety regulations. This role requires a proactive individual with a keen eye for detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining a hazard-free work environment. You will be responsible for developing and implementing safety programs, conducting regular site inspections, investigating incidents, and providing safety training to personnel. This is a critical role that directly contributes to the operational integrity and sustainability of Oando’s activities, protecting our most valuable assets – our people and the environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Oando's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures across assigned operational areas.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all employees and contractors, promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is properly maintained, inspected, and readily available for use.
  • Prepare and submit accurate HSE reports, including incident reports, safety performance metrics, and compliance updates.
  • Collaborate with management and departmental heads to integrate safety considerations into all planning and operational activities.
  • Monitor changes in national and international HSE legislation and ensure Oando's compliance.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans and conduct regular drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Participate in risk assessments and job hazard analyses to mitigate potential risks proactively.

Required Skills

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent HSE certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a safety-related role, preferably within the oil & gas or heavy industry sector.
  • Proven knowledge of Nigerian HSE regulations and international best practices (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Strong ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and implement corrective actions.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Additional professional certifications (e.g., IOSH, OSHA certifications, First Aid/CPR).
  • Experience with HSE management systems implementation.
  • Familiarity with operations in or around large public infrastructure areas like stadiums.
