Job Description

TotalEnergies Nigeria is actively seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Specialist to join our dynamic team in Suleja. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in line with ISO 14001 standards and TotalEnergies Group guidelines.
  • Conduct regular environmental inspections, audits, and risk assessments for operational sites, facilities, and projects.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant Nigerian environmental laws, regulations (e.g., NESREA, DPR), and international standards.
  • Prepare and submit accurate environmental performance reports to regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead and participate in environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and environmental due diligence processes for new projects and modifications.
  • Investigate environmental incidents, determine root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Develop and deliver environmental training programs for employees and contractors to enhance awareness and compliance.
  • Monitor environmental KPIs, analyze trends, and propose initiatives for continuous environmental performance improvement.
  • Manage waste streams, pollution control measures, and resource efficiency programs.
  • Collaborate with community relations teams on local environmental initiatives and stakeholder engagement.
  • Stay abreast of emerging environmental legislation, technologies, and best practices relevant to the oil and gas industry.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian environmental laws and regulations (NESREA, DPR, EIA Act).
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
  • Proficiency in conducting environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and audits.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in environmental management (e.g., IEMA, NEBOSH Environmental Certificate).
  • Experience with environmental management software and data analysis tools.
  • Previous experience in the oil and gas or energy industry.
  • Knowledge of international environmental standards and best practices (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles).
