Action Property Management is seeking a dedicated and experienced On-site Gardener to join our esteemed facilities team for a prominent estate in Sunnyvale, California. This vital role involves the comprehensive care and beautification of extensive grounds, ensuring the property’s exterior is consistently immaculate, healthy, and visually stunning. The successful candidate will possess a deep knowledge of horticulture, an acute eye for detail, and a proactive approach to landscape management. You will be responsible for a wide array of gardening tasks, from intricate pruning to irrigation system management, contributing significantly to the aesthetic appeal and long-term health of the estate’s diverse plant life. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine landscape maintenance including mowing, weeding, edging, blowing, raking, and debris removal.
- Prune and trim shrubs, trees, and ornamental plants to maintain desired shapes, sizes, and health.
- Manage and maintain irrigation systems, including setting schedules, checking for leaks, and making necessary repairs.
- Plant new trees, shrubs, flowers, and ground cover according to seasonal plans and design specifications.
- Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides responsibly and in accordance with safety guidelines and local regulations.
- Monitor plant health, accurately diagnose issues, and implement appropriate treatment strategies for pests and diseases.
- Maintain garden tools and equipment in good working order, ensuring their longevity and safe operation.
- Keep detailed records of gardening activities, plant health, and inventory for proper management.
- Advise on landscape improvements and plant selection suitable for the Sunnyvale climate and estate aesthetic.
- Ensure all estate grounds are consistently clean, safe, aesthetically pleasing, and meet high standards.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in professional gardening or landscape maintenance.
- Thorough knowledge of Bay Area flora, common plant diseases, and effective pest management techniques.
- Proficiency in operating various gardening equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, etc.).
- Strong understanding of irrigation systems, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a proactive approach to grounds care.
- Valid California Driver's License and a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in horticulture, landscape design, or a related field.
- Experience with organic gardening practices and sustainable landscaping techniques.
- Knowledge of complex pruning techniques for various tree and shrub species.
