Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct personal care to residents, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and oral hygiene, while respecting their privacy and dignity.
- Assist residents with mobility, transfers, and ambulation using appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Monitor and record vital signs, document observations, and report any changes in residents' physical, emotional, or mental health to the nursing staff.
- Assist with meal service, feeding, and ensure residents receive adequate nutrition and hydration.
- Engage residents in social activities, conversations, and therapeutic recreation programs to promote cognitive and emotional well-being.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment for residents, adhering to infection control protocols.
- Administer medication reminders as delegated and trained, strictly following established policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with residents, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Participate in care planning, team meetings, and continuous professional development opportunities.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) or equivalent in a long-term care or senior living setting.
- Valid Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate from a recognized Ontario program.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in English, both verbal and written.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including lifting, transferring, and standing for extended periods.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with seniors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Additional training or certification in dementia care or palliative care.
- Ability to communicate in a second language relevant to the community served.
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior care staff.
