Job Description

Are you an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual with a passion for international development and a strong command of Portuguese? Caritas Switzerland is seeking an Entry-Level Monitoring and Evaluation Officer (Oficial de Monitoria e Avaliação) to join our team in Lucerne. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in the vital field of monitoring and evaluation within a renowned international non-profit organization. In this role, you will play a crucial supporting role in tracking the progress and assessing the impact of our diverse programs, particularly those operating in Portuguese-speaking regions. You will contribute to ensuring accountability, learning, and continuous improvement across our projects, working closely with program managers, field teams, and external partners. Key Responsibilities

  • Support the M&E team in the development and implementation of M&E plans, tools, and systems for various programs.
  • Assist in collecting, compiling, and managing project data, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Translate M&E documents, reports, and communication materials between English and Portuguese.
  • Contribute to the drafting of M&E reports, summaries, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct basic data analysis to identify trends, progress, and areas for improvement.
  • Participate in learning events and workshops to foster a culture of evidence-based decision-making.
  • Support the organization of field visits and assessments as required.
  • Maintain accurate and organized M&E documentation and databases in line with organizational standards.

Required Skills

  • Fluent in English and Portuguese (both written and spoken) – essential for translating project documents and communicating with partners in Lusophone regions.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and readiness to learn new M&E software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively in a multicultural team.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team, managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated interest in international development, humanitarian aid, or social justice issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in International Development, Social Sciences, Statistics, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with M&E concepts, methodologies, and tools, even through academic projects or internships.
  • Prior volunteer experience or internships in a non-profit or development context.
  • Knowledge of another official Swiss language (German or French) is a distinct advantage.
