Job Description

Sheraton Lagos Hotel is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Barista to join our dynamic Food & Beverage team within our exclusive staff lodging café. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a variety of coffee beverages (espresso, cappuccino, latte, americano, macchiato, etc.) and other hot/cold drinks following established recipes and quality standards.
- Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, blenders, and other café equipment, ensuring cleanliness, optimal functionality, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Provide friendly, efficient, and personalized service to all hotel associates, remembering preferences and fostering a welcoming environment.
- Handle cash and card transactions accurately, managing the point-of-sale (POS) system with precision.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including counters, seating areas, display cases, and equipment, adhering to strict hygiene and sanitation guidelines.
- Monitor and replenish coffee beans, milk, syrups, pastries, and other ingredients, informing supervisors of stock levels and potential shortages.
- Assist with inventory management, including receiving deliveries, verifying orders, and ensuring proper storage of supplies to minimize waste.
- Educate associates on different coffee blends, brewing methods, and available menu items, offering recommendations as appropriate.
- Handle associate feedback and resolve minor issues professionally and courteously, escalating complex concerns to management.
- Adhere to all hotel policies, brand standards, and health and safety regulations, including food handling and storage.
- Collaborate effectively with the wider Food & Beverage team and other hotel departments to ensure seamless operation and support other areas as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 1 year) as a Barista, preferably within a hotel, high-volume café, or similar hospitality setting.
- Exceptional knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, beverage recipes, and understanding of different coffee beans and roasts.
- Proficiency in operating professional espresso machines, coffee grinders, and modern Point-of-Sale (POS) systems.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills, with a positive and engaging demeanor.
- Ability to work efficiently and calmly in a fast-paced, dynamic, and sometimes demanding environment.
- Excellent attention to detail, ensuring beverage quality, presentation, and cleanliness standards are consistently met.
- Basic math skills for accurate cash handling, inventory management, and recipe scaling.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights (up to 20 kg), and perform repetitive tasks.
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in coffee preparation, barista training, or relevant hospitality coursework.
- Experience with advanced latte art techniques and creative beverage development.
- Fluency in local Nigerian languages (e.g., Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa) in addition to English.
- Previous experience working within a Marriott International property or another international hotel brand.
