Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Part-Time Sound Technician to join our vibrant production team in Maitama, Abuja. This crucial role involves providing expert audio support for a wide array of productions, encompassing both dynamic live events and meticulous studio recordings. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in ensuring crystal-clear audio quality for our broadcasts, including conferences, musical performances, public forums, news segments, talk shows, interviews, and various other forms of content. Your responsibilities will span the entire audio production workflow, from the initial setup and precise operation to the diligent maintenance of our diverse audio equipment. Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and dismantle complex audio equipment, including microphones, mixers, speakers, monitors, and recording devices, for both live event productions and studio recordings.
- Conduct thorough sound checks, line checks, and system calibrations to guarantee impeccable audio quality before and during broadcasts and events.
- Mix and balance audio levels proficiently using both digital and analog consoles, ensuring optimal sound clarity and balance for various outputs and platforms.
- Record, edit, process, and master audio tracks for post-production, podcasts, voice-overs, and other pre-recorded content as required.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and inventory management of all audio equipment, ensuring gear is always in excellent working condition and readily available.
- Identify and troubleshoot technical issues related to audio equipment and systems promptly and efficiently during rehearsals and live productions to prevent disruptions.
- Collaborate effectively with directors, producers, camera operators, lighting technicians, and on-air talent to understand their audio requirements and integrate sound seamlessly into the overall production.
- Adhere strictly to all broadcasting standards, safety protocols, and company guidelines to ensure a safe and professional working environment.
- Provide creative input on sound design, effects, and mixing techniques to enhance the overall auditory experience of our productions.
Required Skills
- Proven proficiency in operating a wide range of soundboards (digital and analog), microphones, speakers, and other professional audio recording and mixing equipment.
- Solid understanding of acoustics, signal flow, audio theory, and best practices in sound engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical audio issues quickly and calmly under pressure.
- Exceptional ear for sound quality, impeccable attention to detail, and a strong commitment to producing high-fidelity audio.
- Familiarity with major digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or similar software.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as dictated by production schedules and live event requirements.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with diverse production teams.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and evolving production demands.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Broadcast Technology, Music Production, or a closely related field.
- Previous experience (1+ years) in a broadcast, live event production, or recording studio environment.
- In-depth knowledge of broadcast industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Experience with various audio codecs, formats, and compression techniques.
- Ability to perform basic repairs and preventative maintenance on audio equipment.
- Certifications in audio production software or hardware (e.g., Avid Pro Tools User, Dante Certification).
