Job Description
Red Star Express Plc is seeking a dedicated, highly vigilant, and experienced Security Officer to safeguard our expansive industrial estate located in the vibrant Mile 2 area of Lagos. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive protection of company assets, critical infrastructure, valuable inventory, and most importantly, the safety and well-being of all personnel and visitors within our premises. The successful candidate will be instrumental in maintaining a secure and orderly environment conducive to our fast-paced logistics operations. Your responsibilities will encompass preventing unauthorized access, diligent monitoring of advanced surveillance systems, proactive patrols, and responding swiftly and effectively to any security-related incidents. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular, thorough patrols of the entire industrial estate, including perimeters, buildings, warehouses, and critical operational zones, to deter and detect unauthorized activities, potential breaches, or safety hazards.
- Expertly monitor and operate advanced CCTV surveillance systems, alarm panels, and integrated access control points to identify and report suspicious behavior, security breaches, or any unusual occurrences.
- Rigorously control and manage access to the premises, meticulously verifying identification for all incoming visitors, contractors, and vehicles, and issuing temporary passes as required.
- Respond promptly, efficiently, and effectively to all security alarms, emergencies, and incidents such as theft, vandalism, fire, medical emergencies, or disturbances, strictly following established company and legal protocols.
- Prepare comprehensive, detailed, and accurate incident reports, daily activity logs, and other essential documentation as necessary for record-keeping and investigative purposes.
- Uphold and enforce all company security policies, procedures, and safety regulations to ensure full compliance by all personnel, contractors, and visitors.
- Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of all security equipment, including cameras, gates, and communication devices, to ensure optimal functionality and report any malfunctions promptly.
- Liaise and collaborate effectively with local law enforcement, emergency services, and other relevant authorities when required.
- Provide clear assistance, directions, and information to employees and visitors in a courteous, professional, and helpful manner.
- Actively participate in ongoing security training programs, drills, and refresher courses to continually enhance skills, knowledge, and preparedness for various scenarios.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of proven, hands-on experience as a Security Officer or in a similar protective services role, preferably within a large industrial, logistics, or commercial setting.
- Demonstrated ability to observe situations keenly, identify potential threats or vulnerabilities, and react appropriately and decisively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively articulate and report incidents, interact with diverse personnel, and maintain accurate records.
- Strong understanding of modern security operations, best practices, and emergency response procedures.
- Proficiency in operating common security equipment, including CCTV monitoring systems, access control software, and two-way radios.
- Good physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding patrol duties, stand for extended periods, and respond swiftly to emergencies.
- Unquestionable integrity, trustworthiness, and a high degree of professionalism and ethical conduct.
- Basic knowledge of first aid and fire safety protocols, with the ability to provide initial response.
- Possession of a valid Nigerian identification card and any relevant state or federal security certifications or licenses (e.g., from NSCDC if applicable).
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience specifically within a logistics, warehousing, or manufacturing security environment.
- Formal security training or certification from a recognized institution or security academy.
- Background in military, paramilitary forces, or law enforcement is a significant advantage.
- In-depth knowledge of local security laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, as operational needs dictate.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for report writing and data entry.
