Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of laboratory tests on biological samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) including hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, serology, and parasitology.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functionality and troubleshooting minor issues.
  • Prepare reagents, solutions, and culture media according to established protocols.
  • Ensure accurate recording and reporting of test results, maintaining meticulous documentation.
  • Adhere strictly to quality control and quality assurance procedures to ensure reliable and accurate test outcomes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, following all health and safety regulations and infection control policies.
  • Collect and process patient samples in accordance with standard operating procedures, ensuring proper patient identification and sample integrity.
  • Collaborate effectively with medical doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to discuss findings and provide necessary information.
  • Participate in continuous professional development and training to stay updated with new techniques and advancements in medical laboratory science.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, including ordering and stocking supplies, and ensuring proper storage of reagents and consumables.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in performing various medical laboratory tests.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory quality control and assurance principles.
  • Excellent aseptic techniques and infection control practices.
  • Competence in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to accurately record and interpret data.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in French (official language of DRC).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Commitment to ethical practices and patient confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Science, or a related field.
  • At least 1-2 years of proven experience as a Lab Technician in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Familiarity with local health guidelines and public health protocols in DRC.
  • Proficiency in local languages such as Tshiluba or Swahili is a significant advantage.
  • Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) is a plus.
  • Certification from a recognized professional body for medical laboratory scientists/technicians.
