Job Description

Are you a compassionate and dedicated Social Worker with a passion for community development and empowering marginalized populations? CEHRD is seeking a highly motivated Social Worker to join our dynamic team in Elimgbu, Obio-Akpor. This position requires a proactive individual with strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a deep understanding of the socio-economic challenges faced by communities in the Niger Delta. You will be instrumental in implementing programs focused on human rights advocacy, environmental awareness, livelihood support, and psychosocial wellbeing. Your work will involve conducting needs assessments, developing individualized care plans, facilitating group sessions, and collaborating with local leaders, government agencies, and other NGOs to create a robust support network. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments for individuals, families, and community groups to identify social, economic, and psychosocial challenges.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized support plans and interventions tailored to the specific needs of beneficiaries.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions, workshops, and community meetings on topics such as conflict resolution, human rights, health and hygiene, and livelihood skills.
  • Provide counseling, crisis intervention, and psychosocial support to individuals and families affected by various social issues.
  • Act as a liaison between community members and external service providers, government agencies, and other NGOs to ensure access to essential resources.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of vulnerable populations within the community to relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case records, progress notes, and program documentation in compliance with organizational standards.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of community development programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other CEHRD team members, community leaders, and volunteers to achieve project goals.
  • Prepare regular reports on activities, challenges, and outcomes for management and donors.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Community Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in social work, community development, or NGO project implementation.
  • Proven experience in conducting needs assessments, case management, and psychosocial support.
  • Strong understanding of human rights principles and community engagement strategies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and show cultural sensitivity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Fluency in English and knowledge of local languages (e.g., Ikwerre, pidgin English) is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in challenging community settings.
  • Strong ethical conduct and commitment to client confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work or a related discipline.
  • Experience working in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
  • Knowledge of gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response.
  • Certification or training in counseling, trauma-informed care, or conflict resolution.
  • Experience in report writing and data collection for M&E purposes.
  • Familiarity with grant reporting and donor requirements.
