Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, dental procedures, and other medical treatments.
- Perform laboratory procedures including blood draws, urinalysis, fecal examinations, and cytology.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Monitor vital signs of anesthetized patients during surgical procedures and provide post-operative care.
- Prepare patients for procedures, including shaving and surgical site preparation.
- Educate pet owners on animal care, nutrition, medication administration, and preventative health.
- Maintain accurate patient records, logs, and ensure proper documentation of treatments and services.
- Handle and restrain animals safely and humanely, demonstrating a calm and confident demeanor.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of examination rooms, surgical suites, kennels, and other clinic areas.
- Operate and maintain veterinary medical equipment, ensuring proper functionality and calibration.
- Assist with client reception, scheduling appointments, and managing client inquiries as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Veterinary Technician or similar role.
- Proficiency in animal handling and restraint techniques for various species.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and pharmacology.
- Ability to perform venipuncture, catheter placement, and administer injections.
- Experience with laboratory diagnostics (e.g., CBC, chemistry, urinalysis).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate approach.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle emergency situations calmly.
- Basic computer proficiency for record management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or certification from an accredited Veterinary Technology program.
- Previous experience working with a diverse range of animal species (pets and livestock).
- Familiarity with veterinary practice management software.
- First aid and CPR certification for animals.
