Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and highly skilled Midwife to join our esteemed Maternity team at Lily Hospitals, located in the vibrant community of Obio-Akpor, Port Harcourt. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive, compassionate care to women throughout their pregnancy journey, from antenatal care and support during labor and birth, through to the vital postnatal period. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive antenatal care, including conducting regular check-ups, monitoring fetal development, assessing maternal health, and offering extensive health education on pregnancy, nutrition, and birth preparation.
  • Manage and assist women during labor and delivery, ensuring a safe, supportive, and dignified birthing environment, including monitoring progress, administering analgesia, and performing necessary interventions.
  • Administer prescribed medication and interventions as per established hospital protocols and medical directives, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes.
  • Provide thorough postnatal care to mothers and newborns, including essential breastfeeding support, meticulous wound care, monitoring for potential complications, and offering emotional support.
  • Educate mothers and families comprehensively on newborn care practices, maternal health recovery, family planning options, and infant feeding.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and detailed patient records, including clinical observations, treatments administered, care plans developed, and progress notes.
  • Collaborate effectively and seamlessly with obstetricians, pediatricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated and holistic patient care.
  • Respond to obstetric emergencies swiftly and efficiently, initiating appropriate first aid and escalating care to senior medical staff when necessary.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and national midwifery guidelines and ethical standards.
  • Participate actively in ongoing professional development and continuous training initiatives to enhance skills and knowledge.

Required Skills

  • Registered Midwife (RM) license from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience as a Midwife in a hospital or maternity setting, demonstrating practical expertise.
  • Excellent clinical skills across antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, including neonatal resuscitation.
  • Proficiency in emergency obstetric care and advanced life support for obstetrics (ALSO) is highly essential.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with patients and their families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize tasks, and make sound clinical decisions independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to ethical conduct in patient care.
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken) with clear and concise communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc) or an equivalent higher degree in Midwifery.
  • Experience working in a busy private hospital environment with a high patient volume.
  • Additional certifications in specialized areas such as advanced life support, lactation consultation, or fetal monitoring.
  • Familiarity with hospital management software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
