Job Description

We are actively seeking a highly skilled, compassionate, and dedicated Midwife to join our Maternity and Child Health team at St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital. Your role will encompass comprehensive antenatal care, including conducting thorough assessments, developing individualized care plans, and offering essential health education. During labour and birth, you will provide continuous support, expert clinical management, and skilled assistance to facilitate safe and positive birthing experiences. Postnatally, you will be instrumental in monitoring the health of new mothers and their infants, providing guidance on breastfeeding, newborn care, and family planning. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including obstetricians, paediatricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, will be a daily aspect of your practice, ensuring seamless and integrated care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care to women and newborns.
  • Conduct thorough physical examinations, assessments, and diagnostic tests.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans, collaborating with patients and their families.
  • Manage labour and delivery, including monitoring progress, administering medications, and assisting with births.
  • Offer expert advice and support on breastfeeding, newborn care, and maternal recovery.
  • Educate patients and families on health promotion, disease prevention, and family planning.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in accordance with hospital policies and professional standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with obstetricians, paediatricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in continuing professional development and training initiatives.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and national healthcare guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Registered Midwife (RNM) with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
  • Minimum 3 years of post-registration experience in a maternity setting
  • Proven experience in managing normal and complex labours and deliveries
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems (EHR) or similar documentation tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Midwifery or related field
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Experience in community midwifery or public health initiatives
  • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., English and Jamaican Patois)
