As an Agricultural Officer, you will be instrumental in the day-to-day oversight and strategic planning of farm operations, ensuring optimal productivity and resource utilization. Your responsibilities will span across various aspects of crop production and potentially integrated livestock systems. This includes developing and implementing effective crop rotation plans, designing and managing integrated pest and disease management strategies, and optimizing irrigation systems for diverse agricultural produce. You will be expected to conduct regular field visits, assess crop health, identify potential issues, and implement timely corrective actions. Furthermore, your role will involve the meticulous collection and analysis of agricultural data to inform decision-making, evaluate project performance, and identify areas for improvement.
Beyond direct farm management, a significant component of this role involves agricultural extension work. You will serve as a vital link between SENCE Agric and our network of local farmers, delivering comprehensive training programs, workshops, and one-on-one technical advice. This will involve demonstrating innovative farming methods, promoting the adoption of best agricultural practices, and helping farmers overcome challenges related to cultivation, harvesting, post-harvest handling, and market access. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage day-to-day farm operations, including planting, cultivation, harvesting, and post-harvest activities.
- Develop and implement sustainable farm management plans, including crop rotation, soil health management, and water conservation.
- Design and execute integrated pest and disease management strategies to minimize losses and ensure crop quality.
- Provide agricultural extension services to local farmers, including training, technical advice, and practical demonstrations.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor crop and livestock health, identify issues, and recommend appropriate interventions.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret agricultural data to inform decision-making and evaluate project performance.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on farm activities, progress, and challenges.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and promote the adoption of modern agricultural practices among farmers.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to enhance agricultural productivity and farmer livelihoods.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and environmental regulations in all farm activities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Crop Science, Soil Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in farm management or agricultural extension services.
- Proven knowledge of crop production, horticulture, and sustainable farming practices.
- Strong understanding of integrated pest and disease management.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant agricultural field.
