Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Finance Analyst to join our team in a remote capacity, supporting our operations centered in Valdez, Alaska. While this role is remote, occasional travel to our Valdez or Anchorage facilities may be required for key meetings or project work, typically on a quarterly or as-needed basis. As a Finance Analyst, you will play a crucial role in providing financial planning, analysis, and reporting to support strategic decision-making across various departments. You will be responsible for developing robust financial models, preparing comprehensive budgets and forecasts, conducting in-depth variance analysis, and interpreting complex financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities. Your insights will be crucial in guiding business strategy and ensuring the company’s financial health and sustainability. This position requires a strong analytical mind, proficiency in financial systems, and excellent communication skills to present complex financial information clearly and persuasively to non-finance stakeholders. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain complex financial models to support business cases, investment decisions, and strategic initiatives.
- Prepare comprehensive annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, working closely with department heads to gather inputs and ensure accuracy.
- Conduct in-depth variance analysis on financial performance against budget and forecast, identifying key drivers and proposing corrective actions and recommendations.
- Generate regular financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Analyze operational data to identify cost-saving opportunities, efficiency improvements, and revenue enhancement strategies across the pipeline system and terminal operations.
- Assist in the preparation of presentations for senior management and stakeholders, summarizing financial results, strategic recommendations, and key performance indicators.
- Support the evaluation of capital projects and major expenditures, including discounted cash flow analysis, return on investment calculations, and scenario planning.
- Collaborate effectively with accounting, operations, and project management teams to ensure data integrity, consistent financial reporting, and alignment on financial objectives.
- Participate in the continuous improvement of financial processes, systems, and tools to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and overall effectiveness of the finance function.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a closely related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting within a corporate environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, advanced formulas, financial modeling functions, macros).
- Strong understanding of financial principles, accounting standards (GAAP), and corporate finance concepts.
- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Workday Financials) and financial planning software.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex financial information clearly, concisely, and effectively to diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting, effectively managing time, prioritizing tasks, and meeting strict deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree (MBA) or professional certification (CFA, CPA, CMA) is highly advantageous.
- Experience in the oil & gas, energy, transportation, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and database query languages (SQL).
- Experience with project finance, capital expenditure analysis, or long-range strategic planning.
- A strong understanding of economic trends affecting the energy sector.
