Job Description
Are you a passionate and experienced educator with a gift for making complex subjects understandable and engaging? The Regent Secondary School is seeking a dedicated Private Tutor to provide individualized academic support to students across various subjects and grade levels, primarily in a home-teaching environment within the Peter Odili Road vicinity and broader Port Harcourt area. As a Private Tutor, you will be responsible for creating personalized learning plans tailored to each student’s specific needs, learning style, and academic goals. You will work closely with students to reinforce classroom learning, prepare for examinations (such as WAEC, NECO, IGCSE, SAT), and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans that cater to each student's specific academic needs and learning style.
- Provide one-on-one or small-group instruction in designated subjects (e.g., Mathematics, English Language, Sciences, Humanities) at students' homes.
- Assess students' current knowledge and understanding to identify areas requiring additional support.
- Clarify complex concepts, explain homework assignments, and assist with exam preparation (WAEC, NECO, IGCSE, SAT, etc.).
- Monitor and evaluate student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and adapting teaching strategies as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student performance, challenges, and achievements.
- Foster a positive, encouraging, and engaging learning environment.
- Stay updated on curriculum changes and educational best practices relevant to the subjects taught.
- Maintain professional conduct and punctuality for all scheduled tutoring sessions.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in at least two core academic subjects (e.g., Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology).
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining complex topics clearly.
- Strong pedagogical skills and ability to adapt teaching methods to various learning styles.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities for scheduling and lesson planning.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for teaching and student development.
- Ability to build rapport and motivate students effectively.
- Reliable transportation to travel to student homes within Port Harcourt.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Education, the subject area of specialization, or a related field.
- Teaching certification (e.g., PGDE, TRCN) is an advantage.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in private tutoring, classroom teaching, or academic support roles.
