Job Description

This is a vital opportunity for an experienced and compassionate Midwife to join our dynamic maternity team at Livingstone Hospital in Isheri, Lagos. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive antenatal care, including physical examinations, health screening, and health education to pregnant women.
  • Monitor and assess maternal and fetal well-being throughout pregnancy, labor, and the postnatal period, identifying any potential risks.
  • Manage normal labor and childbirth, ensuring a safe, supportive, and positive birthing experience for mothers.
  • Identify and manage obstetric emergencies effectively, collaborating with medical staff as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Offer comprehensive postnatal care, including advice on infant feeding, maternal recovery, and essential newborn care.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential patient records in line with hospital policies and medical ethics.
  • Provide emotional support, counseling, and guidance to women and their families during critical periods.
  • Educate patients on various aspects of reproductive health, family planning, child spacing, and effective parenting skills.
  • Actively participate in ward rounds, team meetings, and continuous professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, protocols, and national midwifery guidelines to ensure patient safety and quality of care.

Required Skills

  • Valid practicing license as a Midwife in Nigeria from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
  • Proven clinical experience as a Midwife, with a minimum of 3 years, particularly in a busy hospital or maternity setting.
  • Strong clinical skills in antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, including neonatal resuscitation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, characterized by empathy, compassion, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to act swiftly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and basic computer applications.
  • Deep understanding of physiological and pathological child delivery processes and comprehensive women's health.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) certification or equivalent.
  • Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Experience with high-risk pregnancies, multiple births, and complex deliveries.
  • Fluency in additional local Nigerian languages (e.g., Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa) is an advantage.
  • A Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc) with a Post-Basic Midwifery qualification.
