Job Description
Shell is urgently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Offshore Technician to join our dynamic team operating within Nigeria’s challenging and rewarding offshore oil and gas fields. This critical role requires a professional committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, operational excellence, and environmental stewardship. As an Offshore Technician, you will be instrumental in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of complex equipment and systems vital to our production processes. Your expertise will be key to performing routine preventative and corrective maintenance, conducting thorough inspections, troubleshooting complex faults, and executing repairs on mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems located on offshore platforms. Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventative and corrective maintenance on offshore production equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, valves, generators, and process control systems.
- Conduct regular inspections and diagnostic tests to identify potential failures or operational inefficiencies, ensuring early detection and mitigation.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation faults, developing and implementing effective solutions to restore functionality and prevent recurrence.
- Execute repairs and replacements of faulty components, ensuring strict adherence to engineering specifications, quality standards, and safety guidelines.
- Operate and monitor various offshore systems and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with operational parameters and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance data using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Participate actively in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments, contributing proactively to a strong and positive safety culture onboard the platform.
- Ensure all work is carried out in strict accordance with Shell’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) policies and procedures, as well as relevant industry regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including production operators, engineers, and other maintenance personnel, to ensure seamless operations.
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations and alarms, taking appropriate action to mitigate risks and ensure personnel and asset safety.
- Assist in the commissioning and decommissioning of equipment and systems as required, ensuring proper handover and documentation.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems operation and maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Proven experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) software for planning and record-keeping.
- Excellent analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated unwavering commitment to safety procedures and best practices in an industrial setting.
- Physical fitness and ability to work effectively in challenging offshore environments for extended periods.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent teamwork and interpersonal abilities.
- Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- Possession of relevant offshore safety certifications (e.g., BOSIET, HUET, MIST, OGUK medical).
- Specific experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) prevalent in oil and gas facilities.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian oil and gas regulations and international industry best practices.
- Prior experience working with Shell or other major international oil and gas companies (IOCs).
- Valid medical certificate suitable for offshore work, demonstrating fitness for duty.
