Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient consultations, including history taking, physical examinations, and accurate diagnosis of various medical conditions.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., lab work, imaging) to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, prescribing appropriate medications, therapies, and referrals to specialists when necessary.
  • Manage acute and chronic illnesses, providing ongoing care and monitoring patient progress.
  • Provide preventative care, including health screenings, immunizations, and lifestyle counseling.
  • Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment options, and disease prevention.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential patient medical records in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with nurses, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated and holistic patient care.
  • Participate in continuous professional development activities and hospital quality improvement initiatives.
  • Respond to medical emergencies as required, providing immediate and appropriate care.

Required Skills

  • Valid medical license to practice in Jamaica.
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to empathize with patients.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to patient privacy and ethical medical practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Residency training in Family Medicine or General Practice.
  • Prior experience working in a hospital or clinic setting in Jamaica.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Additional certifications in specialized areas relevant to general practice.
