Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef and other culinary staff in the preparation and cooking of a wide range of dishes, following established recipes and culinary standards.
- Perform mise en place duties, including chopping vegetables, preparing meats, and portioning ingredients accurately.
- Ensure all food items are prepared, cooked, and stored according to strict hygiene and food safety guidelines (HACCP principles).
- Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations, equipment, and storage areas.
- Support inventory management, including receiving, checking, and storing deliveries, and reporting stock levels.
- Contribute to menu planning discussions and suggest innovative culinary ideas.
- Assist in managing kitchen workflow efficiently during peak service times.
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
- Collaborate positively with all kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service.
- Undertake any other culinary-related duties as assigned by the Head Chef.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Commis Chef, Demi Chef de Partie, or Assistant Chef in a hotel or reputable restaurant environment.
- Solid understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
- Ability to follow recipes accurately and consistently.
- Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations (e.g., HACCP).
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for food and culinary excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Culinary degree or diploma from a recognised culinary institution.
- Experience in diverse catering operations (e.g., banquets, à la carte, room service).
- Familiarity with Nigerian and international cuisine.
- Basic knowledge of inventory control software or systems.
- First Aid and Food Handler's Certification.
