Job Description
Y.P. Seaton & Associates is seeking a talented and driven Civil Engineer with a strong focus on both construction and design to join our dynamic team in Gordon Pen, Spanish Town. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated professional to contribute to a diverse portfolio of challenging and impactful infrastructure projects across Jamaica. As a Civil Engineer, you will be instrumental in all phases of project lifecycle, from initial conceptualization and detailed design to on-site construction supervision and project closeout. Your day-to-day will involve a blend of office-based design work, utilizing CAD software and engineering principles, and field-based activities, including site inspections, quality control, and problem-solving with construction teams. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site investigations, feasibility studies, and risk assessments for proposed construction projects.
- Develop detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for various civil infrastructure projects (roads, drainage, water supply, wastewater, structural elements) using relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, cost estimates, and project schedules.
- Supervise on-site construction activities, ensuring adherence to design specifications, quality standards, safety protocols, and project timelines.
- Perform quality control inspections and tests on materials and workmanship.
- Collaborate effectively with architects, contractors, sub-contractors, clients, and other engineering disciplines.
- Manage project documentation, including progress reports, change orders, and as-built drawings.
- Ensure all work complies with local building codes, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and site staff.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during design or construction phases.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in civil engineering design and construction.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other relevant engineering design software.
- Strong understanding of structural analysis, hydraulics, hydrology, and geotechnical principles.
- Demonstrated experience in managing construction projects from conception to completion.
- Excellent project management, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for site visits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Jamaica or eligibility for registration.
- Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with FIDIC contract conditions.
- Familiarity with local Jamaican building codes and regulatory processes.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera P6).
- Experience in sustainable design practices or green infrastructure projects.
