Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled IT Officer with a strong focus on Systems and Networking to join our dynamic team at the Rumuokuta Junction in Port Harcourt. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our branch’s IT infrastructure. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing our network systems, server infrastructure, and end-user computing environment. You will be the first point of contact for all IT-related issues, providing essential technical support to ensure business continuity and operational efficiency. This role demands a proactive individual with a deep understanding of network protocols, server administration, hardware maintenance, and security best practices. You will work closely with regional and head office IT teams to implement new systems, ensure compliance with IT policies, and contribute to a secure and reliable computing environment. Beyond just problem-solving, you will be instrumental in identifying areas for improvement, implementing preventative measures, and training branch staff on IT best practices. Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) connectivity, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Install, configure, and maintain server operating systems (Windows Server, Linux) and associated services (AD, DNS, DHCP, file servers).
  • Provide first-line technical support to branch staff for hardware, software, network, and system issues, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Perform regular system backups and disaster recovery procedures to safeguard critical data.
  • Monitor network performance and system health, identifying and resolving potential bottlenecks or issues proactively.
  • Manage and troubleshoot network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Ensure compliance with the bank's IT security policies and procedures, including antivirus management and access control.
  • Document IT infrastructure, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Assist in the deployment and configuration of new IT equipment and software.
  • Conduct user training on new software and IT best practices as required.
  • Liaise with external vendors and central IT teams for escalated issues and project implementations.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in administering Windows Server operating systems (2012, 2016, 2019).
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, VPN) and protocols.
  • Experience with network devices configuration and troubleshooting (Cisco, Mikrotik, etc.).
  • Strong hardware troubleshooting skills for desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripherals.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and data protection best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, MCSA, CCNA.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Familiarity with banking software applications and core banking systems.
  • Knowledge of ITIL framework and service management best practices.
  • Prior experience in the financial services industry.
