Job Description
Julius Berger Nigeria Plc is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in estimation and construction to join our dynamic team in Abuja, FCT. This pivotal role involves managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from initial feasibility studies through to the final account. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring projects are completed within budget and to the highest quality standards, applying their expertise in cost planning, contract administration, procurement, and financial control. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders, providing expert advice on contractual matters and cost implications. You will be expected to conduct detailed cost analyses, prepare tender documents, negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors, and manage variations and claims effectively. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, contributing significantly to our project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for construction projects, from conceptual design to final tender.
- Conduct feasibility studies and value engineering to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
- Manage all aspects of contract administration, including preparing tender and contract documents, bills of quantities, and schedules of rates.
- Evaluate and negotiate variations, claims, and extensions of time, ensuring fair and accurate assessments.
- Monitor and control project costs, tracking expenditures against budgets and providing regular financial reports to project management.
- Perform risk and value management, identifying potential financial risks and developing mitigation strategies.
- Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure smooth project execution and adherence to financial plans.
- Prepare and process interim valuations and final accounts for contractors and subcontractors.
- Advise on procurement strategies and assist in the selection and appointment of contractors and suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant construction laws, regulations, and company policies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry, particularly in large-scale building and civil engineering projects.
- Proficiency in cost estimation software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong understanding of contract law, particularly FIDIC or similar standard forms of contract.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under pressure.
- Deep knowledge of construction methods, materials, and processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional membership of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
- Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software and its application in cost management.
- Master's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Experience working with international construction standards and practices.
