Key Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and accurately execute work based on blueprints, architectural drawings, and detailed specifications to determine material requirements and plan efficient brickwork layouts.
- Skillfully lay bricks, blocks, stones, and other masonry units to construct or repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches, columns, fireplaces, and other structural or decorative elements.
- Prepare, mix, and apply mortar and other bonding materials using appropriate tools such as trowels, ensuring consistent quality and adhesion.
- Precisely cut and trim bricks and blocks to specified sizes and shapes using a range of hand tools (trowel, hammer, chisel) and power saws (e.g., cut-off saws, brick saws).
- Consistently check and maintain vertical and horizontal alignment of courses and structures using essential tools such as plumb-bob, straightedge, level, and string line.
- Ensure all work is performed in strict accordance with relevant building codes, safety regulations, and stringent project specifications set by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
- Maintain an exceptionally clean and safe work environment, ensuring proper storage and maintenance of all tools, equipment, and construction materials.
- Collaborate effectively and professionally with other construction team members, including carpenters, concrete workers, steel fixers, and site supervisors, to ensure project synergy.
- Promptly report any observed defects, potential issues, or immediate safety hazards to the site supervisor or foreman.
- Actively contribute to the overall efficiency, productivity, and successful delivery of the construction project on time and within budget.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated profound expertise in laying bricks, blocks, and various types of masonry units with high precision.
- Proficiency in accurately reading and interpreting complex blueprints, schematic drawings, and detailed construction plans.
- Strong understanding of different types of mortar, their precise mixing ratios, and optimal application techniques for diverse conditions.
- Competence in the safe and effective operation of a wide array of hand and power tools commonly used in bricklaying (e.g., trowels, levels, plumb-bobs, chisels, saws).
- Excellent physical stamina, strength, and dexterity, with the proven ability to perform demanding manual labor for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to precision in all aspects of masonry work.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction safety procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and best practices.
