Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized, meticulous, and experienced Storekeeper with a strong focus on Inventory Control to join our dynamic team in Kolwezi, Lualaba Province. This crucial role is responsible for the efficient and accurate management of our extensive inventory of spare parts, consumables, tools, and equipment essential for our large-scale mining and processing operations. The successful candidate will ensure that all incoming and outgoing goods are meticulously recorded, stored, and accounted for, maintaining optimal stock levels to support uninterrupted operational activities. You will be instrumental in preventing stockouts, minimizing obsolescence, and maximizing warehouse efficiency through systematic inventory practices. This involves not just physical handling but also proficient use of inventory management systems (ERP/SAP) for accurate data entry, reporting, and analysis. A deep understanding of warehouse safety protocols, material handling best practices, and a commitment to maintaining a well-organized and secure storage facility are paramount. The Storekeeper will work closely with procurement, operations, and maintenance teams, providing critical support to ensure the right materials are available at the right time, contributing directly to KCC’s operational effectiveness and cost control initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, verify, and accurately record all incoming materials, goods, and equipment against purchase orders and delivery notes.
- Organize and maintain the warehouse and storage areas in a clean, orderly, and accessible manner, ensuring proper labeling and storage conditions.
- Issue materials and tools to authorized personnel based on approved requisitions, ensuring proper documentation and tracking.
- Conduct regular physical inventory counts (cycle counts and annual stocktakes) to reconcile with system records and investigate discrepancies.
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently for loading, unloading, and moving materials.
- Monitor stock levels, identify potential shortages or overstocks, and communicate effectively with procurement and planning teams.
- Implement and adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment at all times.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records using the company’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, specifically SAP.
- Prepare reports on inventory movement, stock status, and discrepancies for management review.
- Assist in the identification and disposal of obsolete or damaged inventory in accordance with company policies.
- Collaborate with internal departments (maintenance, production, logistics) to ensure seamless material flow and support operational needs.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in storekeeping, warehouse management, or inventory control, preferably in an industrial or mining environment.
- Proficiency in using inventory management software/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sage).
- Strong understanding of inventory control principles, including receiving, issuing, counting, and reconciliation.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment (valid certification preferred).
- Basic computer literacy (MS Office Suite – Word, Excel).
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and/or French.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all safety regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or certification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- Previous experience working within the mining and metals industry in the DRC.
- Proficiency in both English and French.
- Experience with SAP MM (Materials Management) module.
- Valid forklift operator certification.
