The Place Restaurant in Alimosho, Lagos, is looking for a proactive Kitchen Helper to join our bustling kitchen team. Your primary role will be to assist in various food preparation tasks, maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene across all kitchen areas, and support the overall daily functions of the kitchen team. This includes everything from preparing ingredients to washing dishes and organizing supplies. Key Responsibilities
- Assist cooks and chefs with various food preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, chopping, and cutting ingredients as per recipes and instructions.
- Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all kitchen areas, including work surfaces, floors, walls, and storage units.
- Efficiently wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment.
- Receive and properly store food deliveries, ensuring all items are rotated and stored according to food safety guidelines (FIFO).
- Organize pantry and storage areas, keeping them tidy and accessible.
- Assist in the preparation of basic food items and beverages under direct supervision.
- Operate basic kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, such as blenders, mixers, and dishwashers.
- Dispose of waste and recycling materials in a timely and sanitary manner, adhering to restaurant policies.
- Support the culinary team during peak hours, ensuring all tasks are completed promptly to maintain service flow.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of kitchen operations and food preparation techniques.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and efficiently.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment.
- Team player with a positive, can-do attitude.
- Physical stamina and ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy items (up to 20kg), and perform repetitive tasks.
- Keen attention to detail, particularly concerning cleanliness and food safety.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (informal or formal) in a kitchen, restaurant, or catering setting.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices (e.g., HACCP principles).
- Minimum of SSCE or OND qualification.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both spoken and for reading basic instructions.
