Key Responsibilities

  • Assist cooks and chefs with various food preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, chopping, and cutting ingredients as per recipes and instructions.
  • Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all kitchen areas, including work surfaces, floors, walls, and storage units.
  • Efficiently wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment.
  • Receive and properly store food deliveries, ensuring all items are rotated and stored according to food safety guidelines (FIFO).
  • Organize pantry and storage areas, keeping them tidy and accessible.
  • Assist in the preparation of basic food items and beverages under direct supervision.
  • Operate basic kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, such as blenders, mixers, and dishwashers.
  • Dispose of waste and recycling materials in a timely and sanitary manner, adhering to restaurant policies.
  • Support the culinary team during peak hours, ensuring all tasks are completed promptly to maintain service flow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of kitchen operations and food preparation techniques.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment.
  • Team player with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Physical stamina and ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy items (up to 20kg), and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Keen attention to detail, particularly concerning cleanliness and food safety.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (informal or formal) in a kitchen, restaurant, or catering setting.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices (e.g., HACCP principles).
  • Minimum of SSCE or OND qualification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both spoken and for reading basic instructions.
