Job Description
Are you a skilled and dedicated Generator Technician with a passion for ensuring reliable power supply? Islandwide Power Systems is seeking an experienced and proactive Generator Technician to join our dynamic team in Bayside, Portmore. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the expert installation, routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of various types of generators, ranging from commercial to industrial models. You will play a vital role in keeping our clients’ operations powered, troubleshooting complex electrical and mechanical issues, performing preventative maintenance to extend equipment lifespan, and responding promptly to service calls. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on diesel and gas generators, including oil changes, filter replacements, and system checks.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues in generator sets.
- Conduct major and minor repairs on engines, alternators, control panels, and associated components.
- Install new generator systems, ensuring proper connections and adherence to safety standards.
- Respond to emergency service calls promptly and efficiently to restore power.
- Conduct load bank testing and performance evaluations to ensure optimal generator operation.
- Maintain accurate service records, documenting all repairs, maintenance, and parts used.
- Provide technical guidance and support to clients on generator operation and maintenance best practices.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company policies during all field operations.
- Keep abreast of new technologies and best practices in power generation and repair.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Generator Technician or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of diesel and gas generator systems (engines, alternators, control systems).
- Proficiency in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational or technical certification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with various generator brands and models (e.g., Perkins, Cummins, John Deere).
- Knowledge of automatic transfer switches (ATS) and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.
- Basic computer literacy for diagnostic software and record-keeping.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in diverse environments.
