Job Description
Are you a meticulous and experienced Surveyor with a passion for precision and a desire to contribute to foundational infrastructure projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo? Entreprise Générale Malta Forrest (EGMF), a long-standing leader in construction and civil engineering, is seeking a dedicated Surveyor – Land Measurement to join our dynamic team in Kananga, Kasaï-Central Province. As a Surveyor at EGMF, you will be instrumental in the accurate measurement, mapping, and layout of land for a diverse range of construction and engineering projects. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and construction teams, providing critical data and insights from initial site investigations through to project completion.
Kananga, located in the heart of Kasaï-Central Province, is a region with significant potential for growth and development. This position requires an individual who is not only technically proficient but also possesses strong problem-solving skills, adaptability to diverse site conditions, and a commitment to safety. You will be expected to utilize modern surveying equipment and software, interpret complex topographical data, and produce precise reports and drawings.
Your expertise will be critical from the initial stages of project conceptualization, where you will conduct comprehensive land surveys, establish control points, and verify existing geographical data. Throughout project execution, you will be responsible for setting out precise alignments for roads, buildings, and utility networks, ensuring that every element is positioned according to design specifications. This involves continuous monitoring, measurement, and adjustment as construction progresses. The nature of our projects often means working in varied terrain and sometimes remote locations, requiring a robust and resilient individual who can adapt to changing conditions and uphold rigorous standards under pressure. Beyond the technical aspects, you will also play a crucial role in maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders, providing regular updates, and proactively identifying potential challenges related to land boundaries or topographical features. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive topographic, boundary, and construction surveys using advanced surveying equipment (Total Stations, GPS/GNSS, Digital Levels).
- Establish and maintain horizontal and vertical control networks for various construction projects.
- Interpret and implement engineering plans, blueprints, and specifications for accurate site layout and staking.
- Perform calculations for volumes, areas, and grades, and prepare detailed survey reports and drawings using CAD software.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and environmental regulations on all project sites.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, contractors, and local authorities to facilitate project execution.
- Maintain and calibrate surveying instruments, ensuring their optimal performance and accuracy.
- Document all survey data, field notes, calculations, and results thoroughly for record-keeping and project handover.
Required Skills
- Proficiency with modern surveying equipment (Total Stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, Digital Levels).
- Advanced knowledge of surveying software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, GIS applications).
- Strong understanding of geodetic principles, land law, and surveying regulations in the DRC.
- Ability to read, interpret, and prepare complex blueprints, maps, and technical drawings.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering precise results.
- Physical fitness and willingness to work in challenging outdoor environments across various terrains.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Professional Surveyor license or equivalent certification in a relevant jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in land surveying for large-scale construction, infrastructure, or mining projects.
- Previous experience working in the Democratic Republic of Congo or similar challenging developing environments.
- Proficiency in French (written and spoken); knowledge of local languages such as Swahili or Tshiluba is a significant advantage.
- Experience with drone-based surveying, LIDAR technology, and 3D modeling for topographical mapping.
