As a Project Manager, you will be the cornerstone of our operations in Mbuji-Mayi, tasked with ensuring that all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. Your day-to-day will involve developing comprehensive project plans, defining scope and deliverables, allocating resources efficiently, and meticulously tracking progress against milestones. You will play a crucial role in risk management, identifying potential challenges early and devising proactive mitigation strategies. Effective communication will be key, as you will be expected to liaise seamlessly with diverse stakeholders including government officials, local communities, subcontractors, and internal teams. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead project planning, implementation, and overall execution from conception to completion.
  • Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including detailed timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and communication strategies.
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a clear and timely fashion.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis, managing expectations and ensuring alignment.
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals, and secure necessary resources.
  • Determine and assess the need for additional staff or consultants during the project cycle and facilitate appropriate recruitments.
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel, ensuring clarity and accountability.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team proactively.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and the critical path to ensure timely delivery.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate project management tools.
  • Track project milestones and deliverables, providing regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations to various audiences.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise effective contingency plans.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate, and supervise project team members and contractors, fostering a culture of positive action and accountability.
  • Conduct project post-mortems and create recommendations reports to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and local compliance standards throughout all project phases.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in managing large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and project lifecycles.
  • Exceptional leadership, team management, and motivational skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera P6).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in risk management, budget control, and financial oversight.
  • Fluent in both English and French (written and spoken).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or PRINCE2 certification.
  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Prior experience working on infrastructure projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly within the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • In-depth knowledge of local Kasaï-Oriental regulations, permitting processes, and community engagement strategies.
  • Proficiency in local languages, such as Tshiluba, is a significant advantage.
