Job Description
Are you a seasoned Civil Engineer with a passion for designing and constructing vital infrastructure? SOFRACO is seeking a dedicated and experienced Civil Engineer specializing in Road & Bridge Construction to join our dynamic team in Bandundu, Kwilu Province. This pivotal role involves overseeing all stages of road and bridge projects, from initial feasibility studies and detailed design to on-site execution, quality assurance, and project completion. You will be responsible for ensuring that all projects adhere to national and international engineering standards, specifications, and safety regulations, while also managing project timelines and budgets efficiently.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in bringing critical transportation links to life, directly impacting local communities and regional development. This includes conducting thorough site investigations, preparing detailed engineering drawings using advanced software, evaluating tender documents, and providing expert technical guidance to construction teams and subcontractors. A deep understanding of materials science, structural analysis, and geotechnical engineering principles related to road and bridge construction in the challenging and diverse terrain of the DR Congo is absolutely essential. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all technical aspects of road and bridge construction projects in Bandundu and surrounding areas.
- Conduct site investigations, surveys, and feasibility studies to inform project design and planning.
- Develop detailed engineering designs, specifications, and construction drawings using relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Oversee and supervise on-site construction activities, ensuring adherence to design, quality standards, safety protocols, and project schedules.
- Perform quality control checks on materials and workmanship, ensuring compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Manage project budgets, resources, and timelines efficiently, reporting regularly on progress and any deviations.
- Collaborate with project managers, local authorities, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution and problem resolution.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, progress reports, and documentation for all project phases.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with construction, design, and site conditions.
- Ensure strict compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable construction practices.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and site staff.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in road and bridge construction projects.
- Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, and hydraulics.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, site supervision, and quality control.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and prepare complex engineering drawings and technical documents.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effective stakeholder engagement.
- Proficiency in French (written and spoken) is mandatory.
- Understanding of local construction regulations and standards in DR Congo.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related specialization.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
- Experience with large-scale infrastructure projects in challenging environments.
- Familiarity with FIDIC contracts and international engineering standards.
- Knowledge of local languages/dialects spoken in Kwilu Province (e.g., Lingala, Kikongo) is a significant advantage.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification.
