In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of all lighting equipment, ensuring flawless execution for every show. You’ll work closely with lighting designers, technical managers, and production teams to bring artistic visions to life, creating stunning visual landscapes that enhance the audience’s experience. Key Responsibilities

  • Execute the safe and efficient installation, focusing, and rigging of all lighting equipment for various productions, including live music events.
  • Operate lighting consoles and associated equipment during rehearsals and live performances, precisely following lighting plots and cues.
  • Perform routine maintenance, repair, and fault-finding on a wide range of lighting fixtures, dimmers, control systems, and cabling.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of equipment, ensuring proper handling and storage.
  • Work collaboratively with lighting designers, visiting technical teams, and other theatre departments (sound, stage management) to achieve artistic objectives.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, including working at height, manual handling, and electrical safety standards.
  • Participate in technical calls, fit-ups, get-outs, and strikes, contributing to the overall technical operation of the venue.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of lighting equipment and consumables.
  • Contribute to a positive and professional working environment within the technical department.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of proven experience as a Stage Lighting Technician in a live entertainment or theatre setting.
  • Strong understanding of conventional and intelligent lighting fixtures, DMX, Art-Net, and other control protocols.
  • Proficiency in operating major lighting consoles (e.g., ETC Eos, GrandMA, Avolites).
  • Solid knowledge of electrical principles and safe working practices with high-voltage equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret lighting plots, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Experience with rigging principles and working safely at height.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot under pressure.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • A proactive attitude towards safety and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant technical qualification (e.g., BTEC, NVQ, or degree in Technical Theatre/Lighting Design).
  • IPAF or PASMA certification.
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., Vectorworks Spotlight).
  • Knowledge of media servers and video projection systems.
  • First Aid at Work certification.
  • Previous experience working specifically within a theatre producing a diverse range of shows.
