Job Description

SNCC in Kindu, Maniema Province, is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to join our industrial support team. This critical role involves the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of electrical systems and equipment across our rail and port facilities. From high-voltage power distribution networks to intricate control circuits in locomotives, railway signals, and various industrial machinery, you will be instrumental in ensuring the operational reliability, safety, and efficiency of our essential infrastructure. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspection, preventive maintenance, and repairs on electrical systems, machinery, and equipment, including motors, generators, control panels, wiring, lighting systems, and railway signaling equipment at SNCC's rail and port facilities.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical malfunctions using various testing devices, and accurately interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Execute timely repairs, replacements, and upgrades of defective components, ensuring strict compliance with all safety standards and operational specifications.
  • Install new electrical systems, wiring, conduit, and equipment according to design specifications, relevant national electrical codes, and company standards.
  • Conduct thorough electrical safety inspections, identify potential hazards, and implement immediate corrective actions to maintain a safe and secure working environment for all personnel.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance, repair, and installation activities, including parts used, hours worked, and any issues encountered.
  • Collaborate effectively with other technicians, engineers, and operational staff to resolve complex technical issues and optimize overall system performance.
  • Participate in emergency call-outs and provide rapid response to minimize downtime during unexpected electrical breakdowns or operational disruptions.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols, national electrical regulations, and industry best practices for electrical work.
  • Provide technical support, mentorship, and guidance to junior staff or trainees as needed, fostering a culture of continuous learning and skill development.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as an Electrical Technician in an industrial, heavy equipment, or railway environment.
  • Strong foundational understanding of electrical theory, principles, and practices, including AC/DC circuits, motor controls, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and power distribution systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams.
  • Expertise in using various electrical testing equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, clamp meters, and megohmmeters.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair complex electrical faults efficiently and effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial safety standards and best practices for performing electrical work, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and also effectively as part of a collaborative team in a demanding operational environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in French (official language of the DRC).
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks, lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in various weather conditions and confined spaces.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational Diploma or advanced technical certification in Electrical Technology, Industrial Electricity, Electromechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Prior experience with rail-specific electrical systems (e.g., signaling, traction power) or port machinery (e.g., cranes, conveyors).
  • Familiarity with medium to high-voltage systems (e.g., above 1000V) and associated safety protocols.
  • Basic knowledge of English is considered an advantage for technical documentation.
  • Certification in industrial electrical safety or recognized professional electrical license.
  • Experience with generator maintenance and troubleshooting.
